Chinese Medicine Treatments
Acupressure.
This form of treatment uses pressure and massage with fingers and thumbs to specific acupunture points. The treatment is used to relieve and control specific symptoms such as pain or nausea. This type of treatment can be very effective for in situ treatment for wheelchair based clients.
Moxibustion.
Moxa treatment consists of warming certain acupuncture points with glowing Moxa stick (Moxa is a dried preparation of medicinal herb Mugwort). It is used to treat certain conditions with cold symptoms and can be helpful for menstrual problems. It can stimulate circulation and speed recovery.
Cupping
Cupping involves creating a partial vacuum in a jar placed over the skin. As the flesh is sucked into the cup the blood is drawn to the surface until the cup is released. It is an effective way of directly affecting the circulation in the area, softening stiff areas and breaking down blood stasis. It can also be used to induce sweating to treat the early stages of a cold. It is useful in treating sports injuries as well as certain excess conditions also for releasing tightly knotted areas of tension.
